Trends and Predictions that suggest The Future of Work is Remote

The future of work is remote isn't just a saying anymore, it's the reality. Post-Covid Work-Life is very different from the one before this pandemic took over us like a storm. But it also opened up new areas that we never knew existed. Who would have thought a company could work with just twenty percent of its employees in offices and the rest 80 percent could work from their homes, doesn’t matter which part of the country or even the world they live in.

Yes, we are in the future now. The future has in store for us greater things that can transform our lives forever.

When gigantic companies like Google and Facebook started sending their employees back home to work remotely, the world awakened a new beginning of hybrid work culture. If these huge organizations can do it, any company can.

Honestly, today, working from the office sounds obsolete and impractical.

Rise of Remote Work

Remote work has been around for a while now; even before the pandemic, many companies allowed their employees to work from home once in a while.

Freelancers, Writers, Web developers, Digital marketers were already using this new work culture to their advantage long before becoming a necessity. All they need is high-speed Wifi and a laptop or computer.

One of the reasons was definitely the fact that companies didn’t want to give leaves to their employees for secondary reasons and figure out a way to utilize human resources to the fullest. Employees were happy too, and so it worked.

If this weren’t already happening, Covid would have been harder on the working sector.

Luckily they already knew what to do.

But this transition wasn’t easy. It took many failed attempts and trust-building to become completely remote. There was a time when work from home was equivalent to lesser productivity and distraction. Companies didn’t have that kind of trust in their employees that they have today. But research shows that working from home is indeed more productive than from the office. You have to figure out a way to communicate.

Remote Work After Covid

Do you still remember the time when companies were sending their employees home due to a covid scare? Workers were terrified with the anticipation of losing their jobs; firms were scared of losing their customers. It was a widespread panic mode. But remote work came to the rescue of several organizations and opened up new opportunities for professionals to have better, more balanced lives.

Remote work proved to be more prolific in terms of work hours, lesser travel time, reduced infrastructure cost, to name a few.

Remote working has surpassed its embryonic phase, and it’s predicted by 2025, an estimated 70% of the workforce will be working remotely at least five days a month.

Global workplace analytics reported that 90% of employees are already working remotely at least once a week.

The rise in technology has enabled faster and better communication between employees, apps like Google meet and Zoom has taken over the world, allowing up to 100 workers to connect daily for meetings and get together.

Honestly, video calling apps have substituted the need for offices and workspaces today. As per reports, the Zoom app saw close to 131 million installs worldwide in April 2020

Companies that have made work from home Permanent

Twitter was the first company to take this leap and allowed its employees to work remotely, forever.

Facebook took a chance and allowed 50 percent of its workers to work from home for the next five to ten years. They are being paid according to their work locations.

BitPay or Bitcoin Payment company has also made work from home possible for its workers. However, they plan to have office space for meet-ups, training, customer events, company gatherings, and other events.

Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai sent an email to employees extending their work-from-home period to next September 1, 2021. Its employees may rejoin the workplace for three days a week and work from home on the rest of the days when offices reopen.

Other companies that have allowed permanent work from home for their employees are Coinbase, Square, Shopify, Amazon, and many other firms.

Why Work From Home is the future?

We agree work from home has its challenges, like miscommunications, improper coaching, and training, but the pros can outweigh the cons any day. Take a look:

More Productivity

Many companies anticipated that remote working could reduce work productivity as employees would get distracted by their households and lack supervision, but they stand corrected. Remote work has increased focus on results rather than work hours. In fact, workers interact with each other more on calls than in offices.

The majority of people feel there are fewer distractions when working out of the office. Coworkers are obviously a big part of these distractions.

Reduced Infrastructure Cost

Remote work has been hard on Real Estate as workspaces are no longer needed, but this means more space for cheaper housing and sports complexes. Also, companies can reduce their monthly expenses on infrastructure to almost nothing; perhaps this is why 16% of companies exclusively hire remote workers.

Better Work-Life Balance, Happier Employees

Research says People who work remotely at least once a month are 24% more likely to be happy and productive. 86% of people feel that working remotely reduces stress. Being around family members, especially children, helps professionals, especially women, more fruitfully manage their career and have enabled more and more women to join the workforce.

Less Time Wasted in Commute

People who only do 50% of their work remotely save an average of 11 days per year in travel time alone. Less time in traveling to work means more time working without unnecessary exhaustion. Also, telecommuters have an annual income that’s $4,000 higher than other workers.

Equal Opportunities for Talent from Around the World

The best outcome of work from so far is that big companies can now hire talented people from around the world. Geographical boundaries are a major hurdle in hiring the best people. Big cities will be less crowded now, and beaches will be full.

Evolution of  Digital Nomads

Remote work has allowed professionals to work from around the world, which means more travel opportunities. People can fulfill their lifelong dreams of full-time travel without quitting their jobs. Digital nomad communities are growing at a speed never before.

Remote work is thus the future. Does that mean less traffic on Weekday mornings? We’ll have to see about that.
